Annuals Week: A Showcase of Talent and Tenacity

What a week for our sports teams! Across the fields and courts, our athletes showed incredible heart and determination, leaving it all on the line in every match.

The week started with some standout performances on the basketball court. Our Junior A Basketball team fought a tough battle, staying within 10 points for the entire game and showing impressive grit. The Senior A Boys closed out their season in unforgettable fashion, dominating Horowhenua with a final score of 112–41 to retain the La Roache Family Trophy to close out their year.

 

On the hockey turf, our Girls faced a strong undefeated side with courage, showcasing their teamwork and resilience despite a tough result. The effort and commitment they showed were truly something to be proud of.

 

Our Junior Boys Football team kicked off Wednesday with a thrilling 1–0 win, bringing home the very special Tesh Gallagher Memorial Salver for only the second time since it was donated in 2014. The Girls team followed with a fantastic 1–0 victory of their own thanks to a penalty from Anahera, lifting the Eastern Central Challenge Cup, a trophy last held in 2012.  The Senior Boys also played with unwavering pride against an experienced Nua 1st XI, giving it their all until the very end.

 

Our Netball teams battled hard on Thursday. The Junior A’s and Senior A’s both fought in close, tough games, showing composure, sharp passing, and relentless energy. They played with incredible heart, proving they never give up, no matter the score.

 

The week finished on a high note with some thrilling rugby action. Our Youth Rugby boys displayed incredible resilience, fighting hard all game and never dropping their heads.  Some of our Rugby Girls joined the invitational team to take on the Nua girls, showcasing the growth of the sport in the region with an impressive win. The 1st XV boys, ended the week on a high, delivering a strong performance to secure a 48–33 victory and retain the Westpac Challenge trophy.
