LIBRARY

Our library is the heart of the school.

With a large collection of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, manga, magazines and more, there is something for everyone to borrow! We are especially proud of our large collection of manga (Japanese comics) that are super popular with students.

We work hard to foster a reading culture at Waiopehu College, and take requests from students and staff for books they would like to have in the library.

The library is a space where everyone is welcome, with board games and other activities on offer for break times.

The library is a space for learning and classes are often booked in to learn research and information literacy skills. We provide access to a range of digital resources including ebooks and databases for research on the library website. Students can choose to enrol in the library elective “Libraryland” to become expert library users, and student librarians volunteer their time to help out our librarian Mrs Hopley with various tasks.

The library is a large part of school culture, facilitating various events:

  • Annual House Reading competition

  • Staff reading challenges and book club

  • Celebrating School Libraries Week in August

  • Hosting author visits and other guest speakers

  • Readers cup competition

  • Chess Tuesdays

Access the library website here any time, and browse what we have to offer. Students can log in with their school username and password to renew or reserve books.

For help with research, advice on scholarships, book requests or recommendations please email the librarian Ceire Hopley:  library@waiopehu.ac.nz
