Kia ora whanau,
We’re about to start using a system of text messages and emails to share information with you about student attendance at Waiopehu. Here’s how it will work…
Every day, if your child is marked absent for Period 1 and Tutor time, you will get a friendly text message.
The txt is to (1) let you know that your child isn’t at school, and (2) ask you to please give a reason for their absence. You can text the number back if you like, or call or email (the details will be in the message).
Also, every Monday, if your child has any unexplained absences in the previous week (even just one lesson), you will get an email.
The email is to keep you up-to-date with your child’s attendance so we can work together. A summary of the student’s attendance for the week will be attached so you can look at it with them, see which class(es) they might have missed and get in touch with the right teacher(s) directly if you need. Your child’s tutor teacher is a good point of contact if you’re not sure who to talk to.
For this system to work for everyone we do need to make sure we’ve got correct cellphone numbers and email addresses recorded. We’re asking your rangatahi to help us check those at the moment, but if you know they’ve changed please get in touch with the office!
If you have any questions or feedback, please get in touch and let us know :)
