Levin has a great central location! Located in the lower North Island (95km north of the capital city Wellington), Levin is a 5–10 minute drive to beaches, a lake and walking tracks in the Tararua Ranges – a great spot for those who love being outdoors. Levin has a population of 20,000 (with high growth predicted over the next 10 years) and has all the amenities you could ever need. The neighbouring Kapiti Coast is also a favourite destination for many with its beaches, cafes and attractive lifestyle options.

Waiopehu College is a co-ed U6 secondary school in the Horowhenua town of Levin, north of Wellington. It draws from the local community as well as attracting students from the wider Horowhenua region. The College currently has around 650 students of whom almost half identify as NZ Māori.

Levin is located between Wellington and Palmerston North on the foothills of the beautiful Tararua ranges. With rivers and beaches close by, Levin offers ready access to many recreational activities. Recently improved transport links with Wellington have led to population growth and relocation of industry to the city, this is predicted to continue over the next two decades. With a population of around 36,000, Horowhenua offers the benefit of a thriving provincial centre while retaining community connection.

Waiopehu College is proud of its history and place in the community and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023.

  • demonstrated experience in Te Ao Māori with a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to Māori succeeding as Māori

  • knowledge of modern curriculum and pedagogy
  • a commitment to genuinely student-centred, culturally responsive practice
  • experience with restorative practices and approaches.
